Assessment is practice-led and can include studio projects, live briefs, design outcomes, portfolios, presentations, critiques and reflective professional work.
Written contextual research connects creative decisions with historical, cultural, ethical and industry perspectives.
The final year includes a substantial self-directed project and a professional portfolio or dissertation appropriate to the discipline.
Entry requirements

Academic entry
- Direct Year 1 entry normally requires 112 UCAS tariff points or an accepted equivalent Level 3 qualification.
- Accepted routes can include a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, relevant BTEC or UAL qualifications, an Access to Higher Education Diploma or 27–30 International Baccalaureate points.
- Four GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above, including English, are normally required.
Integrated Foundation pathway
- The integrated Foundation pathway normally requires 32 UCAS tariff points or an accepted equivalent Level 3 route.
- Alternative qualifications and applicants with relevant professional experience may be assessed individually.
- Four GCSE passes at grade 4/C or above, including English, are normally required for the published foundation route.
Portfolio
Applicants are normally invited to present a portfolio or examples of relevant creative work for assessment.
English language
- GCSE English at grade 4/C, Functional Skills English Level 2 or an accepted equivalent is normally required.
- Published alternatives can include IELTS 6.0 for direct undergraduate entry, Duolingo English Test 85, or another accepted English-language qualification appropriate to the route.
International and non-standard entry
Equivalent UK and international qualifications are considered individually. Relevant professional experience may support a non-standard application and an interview or written task may be requested.
