This certificate prepares native or near-native English speakers, and applicants with a high English-language level, for the expectations of British postgraduate education. Core research and writing modules combine with two subject-specialism choices.

Academic entry
- A UK third-class honours degree, ordinary degree pass, or an accepted equivalent qualification.
- The normal minimum age is 21; younger applicants may be considered case by case.
English language
- Native or near-native English, or IELTS 7.0 with 6.5 in every skill, or an accepted equivalent.
International and non-standard entry
Equivalent international qualifications and non-standard applications are considered against the current published requirements for the route.
