Foundation Year
Build the academic, communication and digital skills needed for degree study while exploring tourists, the tourism industry and ethical business practice.
Year One

Assessment
Practical ways to show what you know.
Informal formative assessments are used during modules to test understanding and provide feedback before formal graded work.
Summative assessment usually takes place near the end of each module and may include written examinations, reports, portfolios, essays and presentations.
Independent study and consistent engagement with formative work are important for progression. Assessment methods are reviewed regularly with external academic oversight.
Entry requirements
Your route onto the course.
Applicants aged 18+
- A Level 3 qualification equivalent to 60 credits or 80 UCAS tariff points.
- English and Maths at GCSE grade 4/C or accepted equivalents, including CEFR B1 where appropriate.
- An interview assessing listening, speaking and writing.
Applicants aged 21+
Applicants without the standard qualifications may be considered where relevant academic, professional or vocational experience demonstrates commitment and readiness for higher education.

- Attend the required admissions interview and complete any written or numeracy assessment specified for the course.
- The course provider makes the final admissions decision.

Tuition fees may increase in later years in line with government policy and inflation.
Funding your study
Eligible students may be able to apply for a UK Government Tuition Fee Loan to cover course fees.
A Maintenance Loan may also be available to help with living costs while studying. Eligibility depends on personal circumstances, the course and the provider.
