Course overview
The course explores principles of care, professional values, ethical practice, physical and mental health, emotional wellbeing, safeguarding, diversity and inclusion. Students also develop communication, teamwork, research, data-analysis and employability skills for work across statutory, voluntary and independent care settings.
Foundation route
The four-year route begins at Level 3. Successful completion of the Foundation Year supports progression into the three honours-degree stages at Levels 4, 5 and 6.

Academic and admissions requirements
- A minimum of two GCE A2-level passes, or an accepted equivalent qualification, in any subjects.
- Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, or accepted equivalents, including English Language.
- An admissions interview and/or portfolio may be requested.
- Applicants with non-traditional qualifications, relevant experience or a suitable portfolio may be considered individually.
- Some Level 5 work placements involve regulated activity and require an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check before the placement begins.
English language requirements
- IELTS 5.0, with no band below 4.5, or an accepted Secure English Language Test equivalent is required where English is not the applicant's first language.
